I sifted through my suitcase for props to play with. One prop being my netted bag, which I use to carry fresh produce when I take my strolls to the local market. We played around our living room, embracing weirdness and using the resources we had.
Here we are, in La Condesa, the heart of Mexico City. Ula and I were on our way to go out for dinner, when we decided last minute to snap a few frames. We were in the mood.
When I came across Ula's self-empowerment-driven photography profile, @tasting_red, I felt a warm, sensual nature. A mood in which one can only create through their own authentic lens of what self-empowerment means in their eyes.
We are all born sensual beings, but I feel many of us get sensuality confused with sexuality. I often notice that sensuality gets labeled in a box with sexuality, along with the many taboos in which it is associated with, especially among women. Understanding this dual nature is vital to human connection. It is our mission to "taste" the pleasures each nature sparks in our being and celebrate the connection.
Sensuality derives from "sense"; it's what our hearts crave to taste as a human being. Sensuality is a mother's warm touch to her baby, a tender hug from a friend, or simply gentle caressing when we are the vulnerable, innocent child that resonates within each of us.
Sexuality is our desire to "taste" when we are driven by instinct. Sexual energy resonates with our sacral chakra, and sacral is a very watery energy. When we want to feel good, we flow there, we taste the physical pleasures our gut whispers to our bodies. This energy is like two animals reproducing.
Apart from the wild animalistic nature we desire to taste in a mate, lies our deeply sensual heart. Remember it?
Hey you, [heart] in there, I feel you, beating every second, every day, feeding my veins with life… my body with unconditional love.
Open to your heart's sense, taste it's warm, red, intimate nature resonating inside of your beingness.
All the rules we were taught as children, of how to "connect" or "touch" one another should be splattered to the ground. Who said you can't cuddle your father as a grown-up, share an intimate connection with a stranger, or taste your own divinity through self-reflected imagery? We are all weird, individual, and authentic characters who should empower one another, not because one fits into a box of acceptance, but because we feed the flame that ignites our own red hot internal compass.
Taste yourself. Taste your fire. Taste your love igniting!
"Tasting red" - a splash of sensuality, passion, self-discovery, freedom… and everything else that swims in the eternal pool of love.
In the visuals below, Ula acts as a vessel as I do my dance.
